Cricket Illawarra - Representative Cricket

Overview

Cricket Illawarra is committed to a process of continually improving the quality of all players competing in its competitions. This is being achieved by increasing the number of accredited coaches and improving skills and abilities of all players in partnership with Cricket NSW and Country Cricket NSW. By achieving these objectives, an appropriate foundation will be in place to improve the competitiveness of all senior and junior teams representing the Illawarra.

For all representative teams the emphasis will be on:

  1. Being proud to represent the Illawarra region,
  2. Maximising the team’s potential,
  3. Improving the technical skills of the players, and
  4. For the youngest boys, preparing them for the new experience of representative cricket.

Representative Programmes

Cricket Illawarra competes in the following representative programmes

Seniors

The Country Cricket NSW Zone competitions

  • Open Age - Country Championship
  • Under 21 - Country Colts Carnival
  • Under 19 - Trial Carnival
  • Under 17 - Country Carnival

Juniors

The NSW Sydney Inter-Districts competitions

  • Under 16 - Watson Shield
  • Under 15 - Weblin Shield
  • Under 14 - Harold Moore Shield
  • Under 13 - WS Gee Shield
  • Under 12 - Arch Cawsey Shield

and also the Country Cricket NSW Zone competitions

  • Under 16 - Bradman Cup
  • Under 14 - Kookaburra Cup

Background

All representative matches involving players registered with Cricket Illawarra will be under the control of the Representative Cricket Unit (RCU) in the following manner:

Seniors

  1. The senior selection committee members are nominated and elected at the Cricket Illawarra Annual General Meeting
  2. The senior selection committee will be responsible for the final team selection in the various competitions
  3. The appointed coach of each representative team will report to Cricket Illawarra on the conduct and performance of the teams during the representative program.

Juniors

  1. The appointed coach of each representative team in conjunction with RCU will be responsible for the final team selections.
  2. The appointed coach of each representative team will report to Cricket Illawarra on the conduct and performance of the teams during the representative program (as outlined in the formal job description).

General

  1. All registered players may attend selection trials as required
  2. Nominations for coaches for the following representative season are called for at the completion of the representative season (which includes post-Christmas country carnivals), and the successful coaches appointed.
  3. The association encourages off-season development squads to be trained by the Representative Coaches throughout the winter. Selection in the development squad is no guarantee of selection in a representative team.
